Summer School – Lawmaking in the European Union – The platform work directive Recap Day 4

Two weeks ago, the IAAEU Summer School for Young Researchers in European Labour Law took place for the first time at the University of Trier. This event brought together students, PhD candidates, and postdocs from across the EU interested in labour law issues to discuss questions regarding Platform work in European labour law and develop their own ideas.

On the fourth day, a presentation by Katharina Barley about her work in the European Parliament and the challenges of legislature in the European Union. She gave us a deep insight into the way directives are created. We especially thank her for the kind and friendly dialogue with the young researchers. This was followed by a lecture from Prof. Dr. Claire Marzo on platform work, care platform work and social security. The lesson showed that the effect of labur law legislation on social security systems has always to be kept in mind, when one thinks about the implementation of a directive.

In the afternoon, everyone met up again in their groups to finish off the week’s projects. Their final task was to write a short comparative policy brief based on the group’s work across all phases. These briefings were presented in the end and demonstrated the hard work put in by all the participants. The results where very impressing.
