Summer School – Lawmaking in the European Union – The platform work directive Recap Day 3

Two weeks ago, the IAAEU Summer School for Young Researchers in European Labour Law took place for the first time at the University of Trier. This event brought together students, PhD candidates, and postdocs from across the EU interested in labour law issues to discuss questions regarding Platform work in European labour law and develop their own ideas.

Day 3 started with a visit to Luxembourg, where the participants attended a hearing at the European Court of Justice, followed by a discussion with Judge François Biltgen. In the afternoon, the attendees visited the University of Luxembourg where Prof. Dr. Luca Ratti gave a lecture on challenges and opportunities of the Platform Work Directive. He emphasized the importance of enforcement capacity and institutional coordination. Furthermore, the employment status remains a central but unresolved issue in the regulation. For the rest of the day, all groups presented their current progress on their projects.

A huge thank you goes to today’s guests, who took the time to answer questions and engage in discussions with the participants of the Summer School.
